Ike's Impact Hurricane Ike's storm surge flooded parts of highway 98 near Destin Thursday causing authorities to detour the road through the mid-bay bridge. Many people in Texas and Louisanna have suffered Ike's wrath with many still being rescued. Complete areas of coastal communities have been wiped off the map. Please keep these folks in your prayers and if possible volunteer your time or monetary assistance to helping them rebuild. Floridians especially here in the Panhandle know all to well that it could have been us and may be one day.

Coast Guard in Ike The United States Coast Guard was working overtime Thursday thanks to some surfers that got into trouble. Helicopters were even called in. Please know your limits when the surf is well overhead with ripping currents. God bless our brave servicemen for their honorable sacrifice.

Shell Island Fire!! Panama City Beach's Shell Island was ablaze Monday evening. Supposedly it was started as a controled fire, but the fire appeared to spread quickly with moderate winds.

Gulf Coaster meets Surfing Legend December 2007, Panama City resident Steve Arkell and his wife Sue Arkell got a unique opportunity to meet Big wave surfing Legend Greg "da Bull" Knoll at his home in Crescent City, CA. Greg is full of surfing history, boardshaping, and still full of energy! This man charged on the North Shore before anyone even thought of going out. Greg treated Steve and Sue to a nice session at a nearby surf break pictured below.

Big Mako! In the early morning hours of November 5, 2007, Gabriel Allen Smeby along with five friends hooked something big off the pier at St Andrew's State Park in Panama City Beach. From just over 300 yards offshore, these men fought together for over 3 hours to finally land a 622 pound Mako. This man eater was patrolling the shores near a very popular Gulf surf spot.
